TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AND BUS STOP/ROUTE DETOUR DUE TO COMMERCE BUILDING DEMOLITION Mayor Dana L. Redd, along with NJ TRANSIT, the Parking Authority of the City of Camden and the Camden County Police Department, would like to announce the temporary road closure and detour of buses in Camden with stops along Broadway at the Walter Rand Transportation Center. The detours are scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25th and continue through 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2nd. “I apologize to our residents and the public for any inconvenience the road closures may create to your daily schedule,” Mayor Redd said. “With demolition set to begin this Saturday, it is incredibly important that we secure the area for safety purposes. While a small portion of Federal Street and Broadway will be closed to vehicular traffic, the sidewalk will remain open for customers to visit the businesses along the affected areas. The City is working closely with NJ TRANSIT, the Parking Authority, the Camden County Police Department and the contractor to ensure bus service continues without interruption and the safety of our residents is not compromised.”
“The Parking Authority is committed to doing its part in the revival of Camden,” Willie Hunter, Executive Director of the Parking Authority said. “While we understand that the first stage of demolition of the Commerce Building will disrupt residents and visitors, we appreciate your patience. We are working closely with the contractor to expedite the removal of concrete siding to minimize the closure of Broadway and Federal Street.” The detour is a result of street closures on Federal Street (between 5th Street and Broadway) and Broadway (between Federal Street and MLK Boulevard). The closures are required to ensure public safety as demolition of the Commerce Building takes place at the corner of Broadway and Federal Street. Pedestrian traffic will remain open throughout the entire demolition to minimize the impact to the surrounding businesses. For or more information regarding the detour please see the schedule below or visit www.njtransit.com.
