C.A.N.D.O.’s 5th season of community basketball all came down to last night. It was the championship game, ending off a season that bought out friends, family, and local supporters to cheer for their team or favorite player. The two teams, Team DJ and 6 ‘N Ferry, competed strongly for the title of Champion. The competitiveness could be seen throughout every play; looks of emotion, passion, and adrenaline, from the jump of the ball, until the final whistle.
Two former governors of the state of New Jersey joined Camden’s elected officials at the James J. Florio Center for Public Service in Camden to address the progress that’s been made in the City.
In 2011, the municipality was the state’s and the nation’s most dangerous and poorest city. Since that time, Camden has risen from the ashes and benefitted from unprecedented changes in law enforcement, education and historic economic development. Today, the city has its lowest crime rate in 50 years, the high school dropout rate has been cut in half and the city has experienced more than $2.5 billion in public-private investment.
Camden County’s Early Voting Center in Gloucester Township is open for residents to cast their votes early in the 2019 primary elections. The Camden County Early Voting Center is a joint effort of the Freeholder Board, County Clerk, Board of Elections and Superintendent of Elections.
In recognition of Camden County’s dedicated mission to fight the opioid crisis, the Camden County Jail has been selected to participate in a national initiative to expand opioid treatment in jails.
Camden County was selected to be one of just 15 jurisdictions across the country to participate in the Planning Initiative to Build Bridges Between Jail and Community-Based Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder, administered by the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), and Arnold Ventures, a national philanthropy.
On May 7th, Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez and Camden Mayor Frank Moran joined Cooper’s Ferry Partnership and themed acrobats to celebrate the kick-off of the exciting 2019 Connect the Lots season.
There they revealed the details of the initiative’s landmark event, Camden Night Gardens, as well as the full line-up of programming and special events, including new additions since last year, like First Friday dance parties on the plaza and Third Thursday concerts at the new RCA Pier.
